Version 0.2.0 - Foundation (Target: Q3 2025)

Theme: Establish core avatar infrastructure and prove the concept with one provider.

Features

Feature Priority Status
Core avatar interfaces (Session, AudioDestination) P0 Planned
Token generation with lk.publish_on_behalf P0 Planned
DataStream audio output P0 Planned
RPC playback control P0 Planned
Tavus provider integration P0 Planned
Basic documentation P0 Planned
Example application P1 Planned

Success Criteria

  • [ ] Tavus avatar joins room and lip-syncs to agent speech
  • [ ] Interruption works (clear buffer stops avatar)
  • [ ] End-to-end latency <500ms
  • [ ] Example app demonstrates usage

Risks

  • LiveKit Go SDK may lack ByteStream/RPC support
  • Tavus API changes or rate limits

Version 0.3.0 - Multi-Provider (Target: Q4 2025)

Theme: Validate architecture with multiple providers and add provider selection.

Features

Feature Priority Status
Anam provider integration P0 Planned
Simli provider integration P0 Planned
D-ID provider integration P1 Planned
Provider selection via config P0 Planned
Provider fallback on failure P1 Planned
Unified configuration P0 Planned
Provider comparison docs P1 Planned

Success Criteria

  • [ ] 3+ providers working and tested
  • [ ] Can switch providers via environment variable
  • [ ] Documentation compares provider tradeoffs
  • [ ] All providers pass integration tests

Risks

  • Provider API inconsistencies
  • Different audio format requirements

Version 0.4.0 - Advanced Features (Target: Q1 2026)

Prometheus/OpenTelemetry integration P2 Planned
Avatar caching/preloading P2 Planned

Success Criteria

  • [ ] Avatars display contextual emotions
  • [ ] Metrics exported to monitoring system
  • [ ] Custom avatar creation documented

Risks

  • Not all providers support emotions/gestures
  • Performance overhead of advanced features

Rate limiting and quotas P2 Planned

Success Criteria

  • [ ] Multiple avatars work in same room
  • [ ] Usage tracking with cost estimates
  • [ ] Automatic fallback on provider failure
  • [ ] Audit logs for compliance

Risks

  • Multi-avatar coordination complexity
  • Provider pricing unpredictability

Version 1.0.0 - Production Ready (Target: Q3 2026)

Future Exploration (Post 1.0)

Local Avatar Generation

Generate avatars locally without external providers:

  • Open-source lip-sync models (Wav2Lip, SadTalker)
  • GPU acceleration on agent host
  • Privacy-sensitive deployments

Challenges: Computational requirements, model licensing, quality vs cloud providers.

AR/VR Integration

Avatars in immersive environments:

  • WebXR integration
  • Spatial audio coordination
  • 3D avatar models

Challenges: Platform fragmentation, performance, new SDKs.

Holographic Displays

Physical avatar presence:

  • Looking Glass displays
  • Pepper's ghost setups
  • Telepresence robots

Challenges: Hardware requirements, niche market.
